Just about everyone who has been online very long has been inundated with every possible business opportunity there is and in most cases, the ones that flood the inbox each day are rip-offs.

According to the Federal Trade Commission, there are many fraudsters that you would be better off avoiding because they are only out for your money. One of the ones right at the top of the list is medical billing.

The problems:

Scammers charge a fee of $300 to $500 claiming to provide everything to launch a business but the databases they provide are out of date and the software they use is not authorized.

Doctors who contract out their medical billing often use established firms and not someone working from home.

Only a very small percentage of the thousands of consumers who purchase a medical billing business opportunity are able to find clients, start a business or generate revenues. Even after complaining to their credit card companies, government agencies or consumer groups, only a few people actually get refunds so the money back guarantee is meaningless.

Questions to Ask

Always ask questions and be sure that you understand what you are getting involved in. Here are some things that you will need to know before making your decision:

*What exactly will my duties be? Ask for each step of the process.
*Will I be earning a salary or will I be paid a commission?
*Who will pay me?
*When do I get my first check?
*What are the costs of equipment, membership fees and other costs?
